All About Playlists
Playlists are best for playing lots of content in order and creating variety, but it's nearly impossible to predict when or how often any single playlist item will show up on screen.
If you want control how often content plays every hour, use a [Campaign](/docs/advanced/all-about- campaigns) instead.

File Types
You can add any of the [supported media file types](/everwell+plus- support-1/faq/what-types-of-files-can-i-upload) as well as Content Files and Apps to Playlists. You can also add a playlist to playlist (see [Nested Playlists](/docs/advanced/all-about- playlists#undefined) below).

Simple Playlist
A playlist is a collection of content files that is played in order.
Once the last file is played, the player goes back to the first file and plays in sequence again.
This cycle continues indefinitely.

Nested Playlists (Inner and Outer Playlists)
A playlist can be added to another playlist as a piece of content just like a photo or video.
The inside playlist is called an "inner" or "nested" playlist, while the one holding it is called an "outer" playlist.
The outer playlist is in control and directly responsible for what ends up on the player.
Normally the outer playlist is assigned to a [zone](/docs/legal-faq/what- is-a-zone) through the [layout](/docs/advanced- features/layouts), but any playlist can also be [published](/everwell+plus- support-1/advanced-features/all-about-publishing) directly to a player (full- screen only).

Nested (Inner) Playlist
An inner playlist occupies a placeholder in the outer playlist just like any another type of content.
However, unlike a single file it points to the many files contained in another playlist.
Since there are many files instead of just one, we have additional options.
For instance, we can shuffle those files or play them in sequence.
We can also "pick" how many of those inner playlist files should play before moving on to the next item by specifying a PICK COUNT.
Here is a chart representing how different settings will play out.
