How to create a fenced system of playlists
Add Article HeadingIf all content playing on a player is completely different than the content on another player, creating seperate playlists for each player makes sense.
However, when some content is the common to more than one player, seperate playlists means one change will require changes on multiple playlists.
To avoid that, we use a combination ofΒ fencing and inner playlists.
Each player can only be assigned one playlist (per zone), so we always end the playlist name with "outer" for the one assigned to the player and "inner" for ones that are components of the "outer."We added a new property to the players to identify them as Pediatric, Medical, or Dental.
On each player we assigned the correct property.
We'll have to remember to set this property on any new players you might add in the future.
In your Media library, we created separate folders for holding the media that will be be restricted to play only on certain players.
We moved media into these folders as necessary.
This is an organizing step only and does not actually apply any fencing.
Either one by one (through Manage > Player Fencing) or in bulk (by selecting all > Actions > Media Fencing > Player Fencing), we fenced the media to only play on players with the matching property TRUE.
Once a piece of media is fenced, it will never play on any player other than the one that fulfills the fencing logic we set, even if added to other playlists or campaigns.
We created playlists with the same name as the Media folder containing the fenced media.
For each playlist, we added all of the media from each folder of the same name and nothing else.
In this way we are assured that all the media in the playlist was fenced.
This is important because we cannot yet fence a playlist, which would solve this entire problem, so we have to use a system to do it manually and still have a high degree of certainty.
For clarity, especially in the future, ALL media from the folder should be in the playlist, and ONLY media from that folder should be in the playlist.
They should always match exactly in both directions.
Add this inner playlist to the outer playlist playing on all players, secure in the knowledge that fencing will ensure the content only plays where we have designated.
Changes will be live immediately.
To add new content follow these steps:Open the Media tab folder that the content is designed for.
Set the fencing on the content to only play on the designated player (using either individual file "Manage" or bulk "Actions" button.)Add the content to the playlist of the same name as the folder (either from the PLaylist "Add Media" or from the media file menu "Add to playlist")
