How much network bandwidth do the players consume?

How the player handles media and playback.

Strictly speaking, the players are not designed to stream content and are highly tolerant against network outages:  * There is an online portal (server) where media content (graphics and videos) are uploaded and scheduling parameters set.  * The player periodically checks in to the server and then downloads the scheduling instructions and the media content to its local storage.  * Playback runs from local storage.*   * * * There is about ~20GB free onboard plus an external 64GB SD Card. * * Before a player is shipped, local storage is pre-populated with all the currently programmed media and scheduling. * * * If the internet connection is disrupted, playback continues from local storage using the last programmed instructions and content.  * Once internet connection is restored, the player will check for software and content updates, which will then be downloaded and applied as needed.*The player does have several apps that (if used) require a live connection to function.  * YouTube and Vimeo require a live connection to stream content.  * * * If the network connection is down, the player will skip this content. * * * Services like Weather, Facebook, Google Reviews, and RSS feeds require at least a periodic and relatively recent connection (typically once every 3 hours or so) to gather the data needed to display content. * * * If the network connection is down, the player may continue showing stale and outdated content for some time (weeks).  * * With extended outages (months), the player may sometimes stop showing the content or show an onscreen error message. * * We do monitor bandwidth usage, and it is capped for each player at 20GB per month. (For players on our cellular/4G data plan usage is capped at 2GB/month.) * This can be viewed for each player in the portal at: Players > {PlayerName} > Edit (pencil icon) > Details > Dashboard (see screenshot below).  * Also, you can export all player data to a CSV (including bandwidth usage) from Players > Export.

Bandwidth caps reset on the first of every month.
