How to choose between a Playlist and a Campaign

Short answer: If your audience MUST see it, use a Campaign.

What's a Playlist?A playlist is a collection of media (graphics, videos, apps, and or other playlists).plays one item after another in a sequence.  You can also add a playlist (inner playlist) to a position in another playlist (outer playlist).

See the advanced topic on playlists for more.

Content playing there are two choices: Playlist or Campaign.

It requires a bit of discussion to explore the implications and rationale for each.

One way to think of it is that playlists contain the programming that informs and entertains your audience.

This is useful and relevant content that keeps their attention, but it's not critical that they see every piece.

Campaigns are like the commercials that interrupt the programs on TV: this content pays the bills and keeps the lights on, so we want to make sure everyone sees it.

Playlists play in a loop, and you get to choose the order of play.

If you have lots of variety (which we recommend), it's impractical to try and determine how often any one piece in the playlist might appear.

Campaigns interrupt playlists at an interval you specify, such as one every 5 minutes or once every 15 minutes.

Put your most important and time-critical announcements here.

Important things should probably play at least once during the average time your audience is watching: Are they there in the waiting area for 30 minutes or only 10 minutes on average? Use this to inform your frequency of play.
