💠Playlist or Campaign?
Short answer: If you want to be sure your audience sees something, use a Campaign.
Check out our advanced section for help understanding playlist behavior or help [understanding Campaign behavior](/docs/advanced- features/all-about-campaigns).
You can add any graphic, video, or app from your Media pool to a playlist or a campaign.

A playlist plays one item after another in a sequence.
You can also add a playlist (inner playlist) to a position in another playlist (outer playlist). See the [advanced topic on playlists](/docs/advanced- features/all-about-playlists) for more.

A campaign inserts the graphic or video into a playlist randomly any number of times per hour that you specify.
You can also choose the dates, times, and players the campaign should run on.
See the advanced topic on campaigns for more.

When to use a playlist
Playlists are best for general programming, such as you see in our Everwell playlists.
Those contain a wide variety of interesting and relevant material, but each piece is more or less interchangeable with another piece: it does not matter much if your audience sees any particular piece or not.
Playlists can sometimes be useful if you want certain things to play in order (such as the same graphic but in different languages).
However, you can also do this by [creating a slideshow](/docs/upload-and- schedule/create-a-slideshow).
Playlists can be long, which normally is a good thing to make sure you have plenty of variety.
After all, you don't want to bore or irritate your audience (or your staff!) with repetitive content that soon becomes annoying.
But when you have a long playlist it's nearly impossible to predict how often any one piece of content will show up on the screen.

When to use a campaign
When you have content that is important for your clients to see, a campaign is the only way to go.
Campaigns are best for material you definitely want your clients to see every time they visit, things like promotional material, announcements, celebrations, specials, policies, services, procedures, etc. Anything that you would put in a printed sign and hang it up for all to see all the time.
These are the ideal candidates for using a campaign.
The downside of campaigns is that you have to schedule each and every piece of content individually.
If you have a lot of campaigns it can become somewhat confusing to manage and visualize.
At a certain point, it make make more sense to move everything to a centrally managed playlist.
To make the items play more frequently, consider paring down the amount of content in the existing playlists, removing the less meaningful items.
